Not long ago the Ministry of Education issued the “Malaysia Education Blueprint 2015-2025 (Higher Education)”. At face value, the blueprint is well written and even honest. However, one may ask how it may achieve its vision, its goal, and how far removed it is from the reality on the ground. It may end up as an exercise in ticking boxes, executed not out of motivation or enthusiasm but out of obligation. Further, what is it that the blueprint has overlooked or missed out?
To address these issues Symposia convened a panel of public intellectuals, Dr Geoffrey Williams, Dr Terrence Gomez, Dr Chong Kok Boon and Dr Tan Ai Mei to outline their views of the Blueprint. We then hosted a public forum moderated by Alicia Izharuddin to begin a discussion about the problems of Malaysian Higher Education and the successes and failures of the Blueprint in addressing these.
